Tokat, which has a rich history, is undiscovered and starts a long journey with the ancient castle in the center. Tokat Castle is located on a high hill in the city center. There is no precise information about the period and by whom the castle was built. Not only from a distance, but from the inside can we say that even the sections of the structure that survive to the present day are enough to express its glory despite the neglect and destruction it has suffered for centuries.

Ali Paşa Mosque

Rising to the south of Cumhuriyet Square, the mosque is the largest Ottoman monument in Tokat. It was built in 1572 by Ali Pasha during the reign of Sultan Selim II. It is said that Ali Pasha was the son-in-law of Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent and his son-in-law. The tombs of Ali Pasha’s wife and his son Mustafa Bey are in the mosque courtyard. The mosque, which has the characteristics of 16th century Ottoman mosque architecture and built in Mimar Sinan School, has a single dome and a single minaret on its main space.

Tokat Castle

The fortress, which was established during the Roman Period for road safety, remained under Byzantine rule for 500 years. The castle, which was conquered by Danishmand Melik Gazi in 1074 for the first time, changed hands at short intervals and passed under the sovereignty of Danishmands, Selçuklu, İlhanlı, Eretna, Kadı Burhanettin and Ottoman Empire respectively. The castle, built on steep and steep rocks, is a natural fortress. To the southwest of the fortress was a carved rock-cut tomb. There is a column and two large cells in the mouth of the grave. In addition, a staircase with 362 steps leads to the bottom of the castle. Nowadays, this stair way is closed.

Sebastapolis Ancient City

It belongs to the Roman Period. The inscription on the history of the city was erected in the city center by the notables and the public. The ancient city of Sebastapolis, which is not known for certain, is located in Sulusaray which is 69 kilometers away from Tokat city center. The ancient city was built on a large mound that began in the early Bronze Age. Some sources BC. It was founded in the 1st century. Zile Castle

In addition, the water cistern of the castle was opened by the municipality and restored to its original state. There is also a small Roman theater carved into the rocks in the northeast of the castle.

Kaz Lake

Zile Castle, located in the center of Zile district, is a Roman fortress, built in ancient times and built on a mound. Since it is located in the middle of the district center, it can be seen from anywhere in the city. It is possible to see the other ruins with the lost clock tower in the castle. Sulusaray Hot Springs

It is visited by many people to seek healing, especially in winter. The Sulusaray Spa area near Sulusaray, 68 kilometers away from Tokat, is located in the village of Ilica, 3 kilometers from the town center of Sulusaray, southwest of Tokat. Spa water is known to be good for rheumatism, neuralgia and skin diseases.
